Project Description
In the historic South Hill neighborhood of Spokane, WA, Heinemann Painting completed a full exterior repaint and pressure washing project on a character-rich residential home with architectural details dating back several decades.
The property featured multiple surfaces—wood siding, porches, trim, railings, and a pergola—that had weathered significantly over time. The scope included pressure washing, moss removal, primer application, and a full four-color paint system.
Homeowners Sam and Kate hired Heinemann Painting not only for the workmanship but also because we provide access to an in-house designer to help guide complex color decisions. With a budget between $13,000–$16,000, this 14-day project required detailed prep, repairs, and precise coating application across various materials and elevations.
A combination of Sherwin-Williams Duration Satin Finish products was used throughout, offering long-term protection and rich, historically appropriate color depth.
Background/Story:
Sam and Kate reached out to Heinemann Painting with a clear objective: they wanted to restore their historic South Hill home’s exterior while preserving its architectural character. Over the years, the paint had faded, cracked, and failed in several areas. Moss had taken root on the roof edges, and some of the pergola boards were rotting.
They were especially concerned about choosing the right color palette. Being in a high-visibility area surrounded by other well-preserved homes, they wanted something bold but not overpowering, modern but still respectful of the home’s history. They didn’t want to gamble on color choices or risk a poor-quality finish that would need redoing in just a few years.
After hearing about Heinemann Painting’s attention to historical detail and the ability to consult directly with a professional color designer, they booked a site walkthrough. We provided a structured scope, a plan for pressure washing and prepping the home, and sample test patches to preview color under different lighting.
Once the palette was finalized, the work began—with every step photographed and sequenced to document progress from prep to completion.

Results:
After 14 days of detailed work, including surface prep, structural repairs, and multi-color application, the house now stands out as one of the most visually striking and well-maintained properties on the block. The siding has a consistent, low-sheen finish with no flashing or uneven buildup.
Color transitions are crisp, trim details are sharp, and the front entry now draws attention thanks to the rich amber tone of the door. All paint was applied at the correct mil thickness per Sherwin-Williams specifications, and the repaired pergola now blends seamlessly into the overall design.
Sam and Kate were extremely happy with the outcome—not just the quality, but the care taken throughout the process. They especially appreciated the color support and the transparency in daily progress updates.
“We couldn’t have done this without Heinemann Painting. From the designer helping us lock in the color scheme to the crew who handled every detail with care, it was exactly what we hoped for—and more.”
